Shamajik Council is a concept for enhancing social bonding, engagement and empowerment. This aims to bring community members in a forum on a regular basis. Through his two decades of experiences in social work,Kazi Amdadul Hoque realized and demonstrated the translation of this concept in practical social life. The Social Conference is an annual get-together of social thinkers and activists who congregate to promote a better society through social bonding, engagement and empowerment held on 11 April 2015 at Dhaka. This year, it attracted around 200 participants from various government and non-government organisations, private sector, university, media, Academy, Research institurion etc. The Conference inagurated by Ms. Nasima Begum ndc, Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare, the People's Republic of Bangladesh. The concept of Shamajik Council (Social Council) was presented by Kazi Amdadul Hoque. He explained the concept based on his two decades of experiences in social work, Kazi Amdadul Hoque realized and demonstrated the translation of this concept in practical social life. He framed this as ‘Shamajik Council’ with an appeal for action. Shamajik means social in Bengali language. The Conference speakers Dr. Tofail Ahmed, Political economy and Local Government Specialist and Professor ASM Atiqur Rahman, Director-In charge, Institute of Social Welfare and Research, Dhaka University took part in the discussion of ‘Shamajik Council’ concept.

Shamajik Council in partnership with Melbourne Ladies Connect Club Incorporation (Australia) has launched ‘Breast cancer screening and treatment support initiative in Bangladesh’ in the capital yesterday. The initiative will address the existing unawareness, lack of services at community level, social taboos among the urban poor and rural villages regarding breast cancer issues. Under the initiative, Shamajik Council will organise special camps at community based service points for case-finding, motivating, tracking of patients to refer and support for appropriate treatment.
